euthanasia = mercy killing of non human/ animal?

According to wikipedia, euthanasia is the act of putting to death painlessly or allowing to die, as by withholding extreme medical measures, an animal suffering from an incurable, esp. a painful, disease or condition; this process commonly referred to as "lay down", "put down", "put to sleep", "destroyed", or "put out of its/his/her misery".

Pets are always euthanased by intravenous injection, which then leads to unconsciousness, respiratory then cardiac arrest follow rapidly, usually within 30 seconds.

In the US, Stray dogs and cats live a miserable life -- foraging for food, craving love and attention, starving and freezing. They will finally be picked up by animal control, live in a box for a week, and then get euthanized.

These are photos of the dead cats and dogs euthanized in one day at a county dog pound. They were all gassed simultaneously and then packed up in 50 gallon drums. The drums were then sealed and sent to rendering plants where they were used to make dog food.

According to statistics, there are more than 4 millions dogs and cats are euthanised per year; and the numbers keep growing. Most of them are euthanized by using gas chambers.
